A guitar and a (fancy) box....

Every Wednesday my friend Darragh and I get together to practice our music for various things. Be it busking or YouTube videos, having a get together on Wednesday is now somewhat of a ritual.

Around 3pm he arrives at my house where I have the guitar tuned, the cajon (a fancy box) out of its case and ready to go. We run through some songs that we are very familiar with at this stage. Usually we play ‘Viva la Vida’ by Coldplay, ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry and ‘Dynamite’ by Taio Cruz, to get us warmed up.

After we are fairly warmed up and we are into the music properly now we pick the song we are going to record a video to put on our YouTube channel and we go through it. Two or three plays in and this is when we hit the ‘record’ button on the camera. We usually record the video twice just to make sure. At the time of writing we only have two videos up on our YouTube channel, Cannonball by Damien Rice and Viva la Vida by Coldplay. We have plenty ready to go up however but we only upload one video a week on Friday at around 6pm GMT, so make sure to check out our channel.

When we are done recording the video we normally listen to a few songs on YouTube to see what we could cover in the future. Then Darragh goes home and I sit down in front of my computer screen to edit that days video for Friday week.

All in all, it isn’t that big of a process. Once you get the camera set up properly and make sure its actually recording, its all plain sailing from there…apart from the whole editing the video thing and then converting it to an mp3 file so you can upload it for FREE DOWNLOAD for the people who watch our YouTube videos to put on their mp3 players.

It is a very time consuming process, I will give it that. But it is a worthwhile process. To see the feedback either through comments on the video, through twitter or email it is nice to know that what you are doing is greatly appreciated. Just like blogging. When I get emails from readers it is nice to know that I am not alone here and that people are actually paying attention to what I have to say.
